But, she did exactly the opposite.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She used <a href=\"https:\/\/botoxcapilar.org\/en\/can-you-leave-coconut-oil-in-your-hair-overnight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">coconut oil as an overnight mask<\/a> every two days. After 15 days she came to see me, as angry at me as if her boyfriend had told her to go to the moon and never, ever come back.<\/p>\n<p>When she told me what happened, I was the one that wanted to go to the moon. She complained that her hair a sticky mess. If she had slightly greasy hair before, her hair was now a personification of grease.<\/p>\n<p>Who think it\u2019s a good idea to use coconut oil as the base of an overnight mask, especially if you have super greasy hair?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Yep, I know. Julia.<\/p>\n<span class=\"su-highlight\" style=\"background:#ffb5e8;color:#000000\">&nbsp;If you have greasy hair and you get frizzy hair on humid days, you can put a few drops of oil into your hair and distribute it through your hair from the middle through the ends when it\u2019s wet. &nbsp;<\/span>\n<p>But only a little bit and only on extremely humid days.<\/p>\n<p>Is your hair normal in terms of greasiness but you also get a lot of frizz?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If so, you can also use coconut oil as an anti-frizz technique on your damp hair any day.<\/p>\n<p>Now, what happens if one day you wake up and the frizz in your hair is just totally unmanageable?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You can also use a few drops of coconut oil. But I should warn you.<\/p>\n<p>You might notice that your hair is less shiny and opaquer when you apply the coconut oil to it. That\u2019s normal. That\u2019s just how it goes.<\/p>\n<p>Now, what happens if you want to use coconut oil as a deep hydration mask?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll tell you the answer in a moment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>How to use coconut oil on dry hair as a deep hydration mask<\/h2>\n<p>You\u2019ve surely heard of a lot of people using coconut oil on their hair as an overnight mask.<\/p>\n<p>But, although it might not be what you expect, you should do it on dry hair.<\/p>\n<p>The reason is simple.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s imagine that you have a sponge and you keep dipping it in water over and over again.<\/p>\n<p>What will happen at some point?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The sponge will stop absorbing water because it\u2019s full, right?<\/p>\n<p>The same thing can happen with wet hair.<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> When your hair absorbs water, it swells. And when it swells, it can\u2019t absorb anything else. Not even coconut oil.<\/li>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> That\u2019s why if you put coconut oil on wet hair, you\u2019re minimizing the product\u2019s ability to deeply hydrate your hair.<\/li>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> Because the oil won\u2019t be able to get through the outside layer of your hair to give it its nutrients because those spaces are already occupied by water.<\/li>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> So, although nothing bad will happen to your hair, you won\u2019t get what you were looking for out of the mask, which is to deeply nurture your hair.<\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And you\u2019ll be wasting time and money.<\/p>\n<p>And what\u2019s even worse is that your hair will continue to look weak and dry.<\/p>\n<p>Wouldn\u2019t it be great if coconut oil could transform your hair?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It can, and if you want it to, you have to give it a chance.<\/p>\n<p>Since coconut oil is a lauric acid triglyceride, an essential fatty acid, it has a high affinity for the protein in your hair, and thanks to its low molecular weight, it can penetrate to the inside of your hair.<\/p>\n<p>So, how should you apply it to your dry hair?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> I\u2019d recommend heating up the coconut oil in your hands so it turns into a liquid and then rubbing it between your hands to turn it into a kind of foam, which you\u2019ll then apply to the ends of your hair.<\/li>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> This is a key step because with this movement, you\u2019ll be preparing the oil and your hair so its cuticles open and the molecules in the oil are able to penetrate your hair.<\/li>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> It\u2019s better to divide your hair and apply the oil in sections to ensure that you cover each area.<\/li>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> \u00a0<span class=\"su-highlight\" style=\"background:#ffb5e8;color:#000000\">&nbsp;And, of course, apply more oil in the areas where your hair looks drier and more damaged, which is generally at the ends, and less where your hair is healthier, which is usually on your scalp. &nbsp;<\/span><\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Do you remember in the beginning when I told you about an exception to using coconut oil on wet hair for a hydrating mask?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>That except is for people that have very curly, afro-type hair.<\/p>\n<p>Do you know why?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Because that kind of hair absorbs water very quickly, but it also loses it very quickly.<\/p>\n<p>So, water never makes your hair swell if you have that curly hair, so coconut oil can penetrate the outer layer of your hair perfectly fine even when it\u2019s wet.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Now you know if you should apply coconut oil to your wet or dry hair, depending on what you\u2019re looking to do. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do you want to know if it\u2019s better to apply coconut oil to damp or dry hair? &nbsp; Unfortunately, the answer is that it depends.
