Some of the biggest brands also have special lines designed for gray hair.<\/strong><\/span> I\u2019m going to tell you about a few of them.<\/li>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> And lastly, if you want the dye to last a long time on your gray hair, then <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>you need to be very careful about how you wash your hair and the products you use to do it.<\/strong><\/span> <\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I know what you\u2019re going through because I see it every day in my salon and also because lots of my friends are also caught up in the eternal battle against their gray.<\/p>\n<p>Gray hair can be hell to manage, whether you have 10 gray hairs, 30 or 100. They can make you look older and sometimes the growth at your roots can end up looking untidy or unkept.<\/p>\n<span class=\"su-highlight\" style=\"background:#ffb5e8;color:#000000\">&nbsp;The million dollar question is: Why do some dyes last longer in some people\u2019s hair than in other peoples\u2019 hair?&nbsp;<\/span>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Let me tell you the story of two of my clients.<\/p>\n<p>Amelia and Patrice are sisters and they\u2019re only a few years apart. They started coming to my salon when their first gray hairs started appearing and they acted like coming to the salon was an outing for the sisters.<\/p>\n<p>They took advantage of the time they were there to chat and get caught up with each other.<\/p>\n<p>But, after a few months, I started to notice that they weren\u2019t coming to the salon at the same time anymore.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> Amelia came to touch up her <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>dark brown shade 7 hair every five weeks.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> On the other hand, Patrice, who had a chocolate brown shade 5 color, came in every three weeks.<\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Something was going on and we had to figure out what it was.<\/p>\n<p>Because I was using the same brand of dye on both of them and I let it sit the same amount of time for both of them. So, something else had to be going on, but what could it be?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I started to suspect that maybe Patrice wasn\u2019t doing everything she needed to take care of her color. I give my clients a list of things that they need to do every single time I finish dyeing their gray hair, so maybe she wasn\u2019t following it.<\/p>\n<p>Can you imagine what might be on that list?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Let me help:<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> Wait 48 hours to wash it for the first time<\/li>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> Use a sulfate-free shampoo<\/li>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> Use hydrating masks every 20-30 days<\/li>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> Avoid washing your hair every day <\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As you can see, it\u2019s not an incredibly complicated list, and it\u2019s thought out to ensure that the dye I take so much care to apply correctly in the salon lasts as long as possible, so my clients get their money\u2019s worth.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When I asked Patrice if she followed my directions, she answered timidly that the only one that she did follow was the first item on the list: <a href=\"https:\/\/botoxcapilar.org\/en\/wash-hair-immediately-after-coloring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">waiting 48 hours to wash her hair after dyeing<\/a> it.<\/p>\n<p>But, it was clear that she wasn\u2019t doing anything else on the list.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<span class=\"su-highlight\" style=\"background:#ffb5e8;color:#000000\">&nbsp;So, I confirmed my suspicions. That\u2019s why her dye didn\u2019t last as long and her hair looked less bright than her sister\u2019s. That\u2019s also why her gray shone through quicker. &nbsp;<\/span>\n<p>Patrice kept using her normal shampoo, full of sulfates and she used hydrating masks twice a week.<\/p>\n<p>And, so, of course her gray was coming back quickly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It was like she was screaming, \u201cCome back gray hair, come back!!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But, it\u2019s not the end of the world, she didn\u2019t do anything horrible, I was just disappointed that she paid for my work and then didn\u2019t take care of it, causing her to need to come back sooner.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s like if you hire a painter to repaint all the walls in your house, then you let your kids color on the walls with crayons every day. As good of a job as the painter did and as good as the brand of paint the painter used, the walls will still go back to being a mess quickly.<\/p>\n<span class=\"su-highlight\" style=\"background:#ffb5e8;color:#000000\">&nbsp;The same thing happens with the dye for your gray hair. Are you ready to take it on once and for all?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Dyes that last the longest in gray hair<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23292\" src=\"https:\/\/botoxcapilar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/loreal-excellence-age-perfect.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/botoxcapilar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/loreal-excellence-age-perfect.jpg 650w, https:\/\/botoxcapilar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/loreal-excellence-age-perfect-300x185.jpg 300w, https:\/\/botoxcapilar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/loreal-excellence-age-perfect-223x137.jpg 223w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once gray hair appears, there\u2019s only one way to fight it: dye it.<\/p>\n<p>But not with just any dye, you should first choose a permanent dye.<\/p>\n<p>Do you know why?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> Because permanent dyes contain ammonia, a chemical that helps to make pigment stay better in your hair.<\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That\u2019s why permanent dye is the only kind that will work for covering gray hair.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> Also, dyes that don\u2019t contain ammonia aren\u2019t made for covering gray hair.<\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How can you check to see which dyes contain ammonia and which don\u2019t?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s easy, if you read the box of the dye kit you\u2019re going to use, it might say: \u201csemi-permanent\u201d or \u201ctone-on-tone.\u201d If it says that, then you don\u2019t want it.<\/p>\n<p>Why shouldn\u2019t you choose those kinds of dye?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Because if it doesn\u2019t contain ammonia, then it won\u2019t open your hair\u2019s cuticle to set the pigment, so your gray will only stay dyed for two or three washes.<\/p>\n<p>Then, your gray or white hair will start to appear all over again and you\u2019ll have wasted your time and money.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> Once you\u2019ve chosen a permanent dye, you\u2019ll probably be left with the question: Which brand of permanent dye will cover my gray for the longest time? <\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That\u2019s a very good question. Let me give you an example.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I love the perfume Flower by Kenzo. Sometimes I don\u2019t buy the original, instead I go for one of the many imitations out there.<\/p>\n<p>In the first few minutes, the smell is almost exactly the same. But after two hours, it\u2019s totally gone. That\u2019s the difference between a good brand and one that\u2019s not.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not about marketing, but it is about what the brand comes with. Kenzo makes their dyes with a team of experts that know how to make a unique perfume that will last.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the same when it comes to dye. If you want a dye that will last, then it\u2019s best to choose a brand that\u2019s known for the quality of its products. They might be a little bit more expensive, but they\u2019ll be better in the long term.<\/p>\n<p>What products do I use in my salon?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> One of the ones I use is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loreal-paris.co.uk\/products\/hair-colour\/brand\/age-perfect-colour-care\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">L\u2019Oreal Age Perfect<\/a> because of its high quality and long-lasting pigments, which are ideal for gray hair.<\/li>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> Garnier dyes also give good results, but you should choose their line made for gray hair. <\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Garnier has a line especially made for gray hair and an at-home color kit that includes oils for pre and post color care that protect your hair from any damage that the dye might do.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So, now you know that you should choose a permanent dye and if you can get one of the L\u2019Oreal Age Perfect dyes, all the better.<\/p>\n<p>But how do you choose the shade?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s what I\u2019m about to tell you right now.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>How to choose the right shade for covering your gray<\/h2>\n<p>Of course, you should choose a shade that goes well with your base color.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> If your hair is dark brown, you can\u2019t hide your gray with light blonde, it just won\u2019t work. <\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If your base colors allows for it and your hair is more than 60% gray, then a <a href=\"https:\/\/botoxcapilar.org\/en\/best-blonde-hair-color-to-cover-gray\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">blonde shade is right for you<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That way you\u2019ll hide where the gray grows in at your roots without needing to touch up your color so often.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Choose the lightest shades possible, like 8, 9 or 10, which are ideal,<\/strong><\/span> since gray hair is light, the lighter your hair, the better it will hide your gray. <\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Try to avoid dark shades so you can avoid touching up your hair as long as possible.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And lastly, now that you\u2019ve dyed your hair with a permanent dye from a good brand, how can you take care of your hair to make the dye last longer?<\/p>\n<p>First of all, don\u2019t wash your hair for at least 48 hours after you dye it. Then, what next?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Take the following advice.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>3 secrets for caring for dyed hair to make the dye last longer<\/h2>\n<p>External factors such as your hair care routine are very important when it comes to caring for your dyed hair.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> For example, the ingredients in your shampoo and conditioner can wash out color quickly, so you should use a sulfate-free shampoo.<\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That way, the dye will stay intact when you wash your hair and it will last longer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> Remember when Patrice used a hydrating mask on her hair once a week?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>That is totally prohibited. You should only use a mask once every 20 or 30 days.<\/p>\n<p>Because most hydrating masks create a film that sticks to your hair and when you rinse it, the dye goes with it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<span class=\"su-highlight\" style=\"background:#ffb5e8;color:#000000\">&nbsp;That\u2019s why you should limit your usage of hydrating masks as much as possible, but if your hair is really dry, you can replace them with coconut oil, which will moisturize your hair without eliminating the dye. &nbsp;<\/span>\n<p>Coconut oil isn\u2019t corrosive to dye, so you can use it up to twice a week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> And lastly, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redken.com\/blog\/haircare\/hair-101-expert-exlains-how-often-wash-hair\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">don\u2019t wash your hair every day<\/a> because that will make the dye dilute a little every single day. A todas las mujeres nos sucede que cuando estamos alegres festejamos con un cambio de look y cuando estamos en un mal momento renovamos las energ\u00edas en el sal\u00f3n. \u2022 Estudie en IAP (Instituto Argentino de peluquer\u00eda) para recibir mi t\u00edtulo de estilista en el a\u00f1o 2006. \u2022 Luego en el instituto tambi\u00e9n me especialice en colorimetr\u00eda, los colores y tonos del cabello son fundamentales para expresar lo que uno desea. \u2022 En el a\u00f1o 2015 en IAP tom\u00e9 cursos de alisado, b\u00f3tox y cauterizaci\u00f3n capilar. \u2022 Y en el a\u00f1o 2017 t\u00e9cnicas de desgastado (balayage, californianas etc). Mantenerse actualizada en las tendencias es fundamental para cualquier estilista. Cuando veo a mis clientas que ven el cabello exactamente como lo so\u00f1aban para mi es un logro personal. Me dedico especialmente a realizar cambios de look, colores fantas\u00edas, balayage, decoloraciones progresivas etc. Trabaje en varios salones, para adquirir toda la pr\u00e1ctica que necesitaba. La cadena de peluquer\u00edas \u00d3scar Colombo fue mi primer sal\u00f3n donde aprend\u00ed a interpretar a las clientas y a trabajar en equipo. Despu\u00e9s de un tiempo cambie mi enfoque a looks m\u00e1s osados en Monster Style, dedic\u00e1ndome full time a color, este sal\u00f3n en particular se dedicaba a cambios extremos colores fantas\u00edas y no convencionales, me sirvi\u00f3 mucho para aprender a utilizar la gama de tonos. Hasta que finalmente decid\u00ed armar mi sal\u00f3n en la comodidad de mi casa. Mi casa le da a mis clientas la tranquilidad de tener un espacio para ellas \u00fanicamente y totalmente personal, de esta manera cada una de ellas sabe que tienen un d\u00eda para distenderse y tambi\u00e9n, porque no, hablar de sus cosas. Para mi lo m\u00e1s importante es que obtengan el resultado que esperaban, as\u00ed que siempre pido una foto de referencia para saber bien que es lo que buscan y les doy un diagn\u00f3stico realista de cuantas sesiones llevar\u00e1, el da\u00f1o en el cabello, si se puede realizar o no. En resumen, la peluquer\u00eda es mi vocaci\u00f3n y mi arte. No podr\u00eda haber hecho otra cosa en mi vida que ser estilista.
