Once you\u2019ve mixed them, you have to get rid of the leftover mix.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Now, what should you do if you\u2019ve used an expired dye?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<span class=\"su-highlight\" style=\"background:#ffb5e8;color:#000000\">&nbsp;I\u2019m going to tell you a little story to help you understand what can happen if you use an expired dye on your hair.&nbsp;<\/span>\n<p>Maria had balayage in her hair, so she had to get it touched up every 6-8 weeks, and to save herself a little money, she touches up her roots herself.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The first thing that I noticed when I saw her last time were her roots. They had grown in gray. That caught my attention because she\u2019s very careful about touching up her roots.<\/p>\n<p>I asked her what happened, and she told me that she\u2019d used a dye twice, and <a href=\"https:\/\/botoxcapilar.org\/en\/hair-color-fading-after-one-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">after two or three washes, the color disappeared<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>That seemed really strange to me because I haven\u2019t ever heard of a dye \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.matrix.com\/blog\/4-hair-color-types-temporary-to-permanent-hair-color\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">permanent or semi-permanent<\/a> \u2013 that disappears after two washes, so it occurred to me to ask her if she\u2019d checked the expiration date on the dye.<\/p>\n<p>She looked at me like I was from another planet, so I realized that she had never thought of the expiration date.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>And, it turns out, she had used a dye that she\u2019d kept in her house for a while, so it had expired,<\/strong><\/span> but, thankfully, it didn\u2019t damage her hair. The only thing that happened was that the pigment didn\u2019t deposit in her hair.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<span class=\"su-highlight\" style=\"background:#ffb5e8;color:#000000\">&nbsp;That\u2019s why if you have had a dye for a while, you should be careful. You should look at both the tube of dye and the developer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> On one hand, there\u2019s the tube of dye\u2019s expiration date, which is the last day the dye should work correctly on your hair. <\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You\u2019ll see that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lorealprofessionnel.co.uk\/hair-advice\/hair-colour-advice\/should-you-switch-to-ammonia-free-hair-colour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dye contains ammonia<\/a>, among other chemicals, <span class=\"su-highlight\" style=\"background:#ffb5e8;color:#000000\">&nbsp;which has a lifespan of 2-4 years, depending on how concentrated it is and how it\u2019s stored.&nbsp;<\/span>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> On the other hand, you\u2019ll see that you also find a developer in your color kit, which also has an expiration date, usually after the dye\u2019s expiration date.<span class=\"su-highlight\" style=\"background:#ffb5e8;color:#000000\">&nbsp;In general, it will expire in 3-6 years.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Peroxide, the chemical in the developer, is almost a non-perishable product, as long as you store it correctly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<span class=\"su-highlight\" style=\"background:#ffb5e8;color:#000000\">&nbsp;In order for the dye\u2019s pigments to correctly deposit in your hair, both products, both the dye and the developer, shouldn\u2019t be expired. &nbsp;<\/span>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> But the expiration date isn\u2019t the only important aspect in this equation, since the place where you store the dye is also very important. <\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>You should always store dye somewhere where it doesn\u2019t receive direct sunlight and in a place where the temperature will not exceed 75\u2070F (24\u2070C).<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Do you know why?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Because both peroxide and ammonia react at high temperatures.<span class=\"su-highlight\" style=\"background:#ffb5e8;color:#000000\">&nbsp;That\u2019s why if you store the kit somewhere where the temperature gets high, the chemical reaction can happen inside the box.&nbsp;<\/span>\n<p>Can you imagine opening the box and seeing everything dyed brown or blonde?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>That would be a true disaster.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why you need to keep both the expiration date and the place where you\u2019re storing the kit in mind.<\/p>\n<p>Because if you don\u2019t store it in the right conditions, even if the dye isn\u2019t expired, the pigment won\u2019t cover your hair\u2019s surface.<\/p>\n<p>And what can happen if you use expired dye on your hair?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Well, the Earth won\u2019t stop spinning, but things you don\u2019t like might still happen. That\u2019s what happened to Maria.<\/p>\n<p>Something worse can happen, though: pigment degradation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-list milista\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n<ul>\n<li><i class=\"sui sui-check-square-o\" style=\"color:#800080\"><\/i> If the dye or developer is expired, you shouldn\u2019t use them because your color might degrade, and your hair will absorb the pure pigment. That would turn your hair green or red because the color is degraded. <\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Although this isn\u2019t common \u2013 it\u2019s more like a one in a thousand chance \u2013 it can still happen. A todas las mujeres nos sucede que cuando estamos alegres festejamos con un cambio de look y cuando estamos en un mal momento renovamos las energ\u00edas en el sal\u00f3n. \u2022 Estudie en IAP (Instituto Argentino de peluquer\u00eda) para recibir mi t\u00edtulo de estilista en el a\u00f1o 2006. \u2022 Luego en el instituto tambi\u00e9n me especialice en colorimetr\u00eda, los colores y tonos del cabello son fundamentales para expresar lo que uno desea. \u2022 En el a\u00f1o 2015 en IAP tom\u00e9 cursos de alisado, b\u00f3tox y cauterizaci\u00f3n capilar. \u2022 Y en el a\u00f1o 2017 t\u00e9cnicas de desgastado (balayage, californianas etc). Mantenerse actualizada en las tendencias es fundamental para cualquier estilista. Cuando veo a mis clientas que ven el cabello exactamente como lo so\u00f1aban para mi es un logro personal. Me dedico especialmente a realizar cambios de look, colores fantas\u00edas, balayage, decoloraciones progresivas etc. Trabaje en varios salones, para adquirir toda la pr\u00e1ctica que necesitaba. La cadena de peluquer\u00edas \u00d3scar Colombo fue mi primer sal\u00f3n donde aprend\u00ed a interpretar a las clientas y a trabajar en equipo. Despu\u00e9s de un tiempo cambie mi enfoque a looks m\u00e1s osados en Monster Style, dedic\u00e1ndome full time a color, este sal\u00f3n en particular se dedicaba a cambios extremos colores fantas\u00edas y no convencionales, me sirvi\u00f3 mucho para aprender a utilizar la gama de tonos. Hasta que finalmente decid\u00ed armar mi sal\u00f3n en la comodidad de mi casa. A todas las mujeres nos sucede que cuando estamos alegres festejamos con un cambio de look y cuando estamos en un mal momento renovamos las energ\u00edas en el sal\u00f3n. \u2022 Estudie en IAP (Instituto Argentino de peluquer\u00eda) para recibir mi t\u00edtulo de estilista en el a\u00f1o 2006. \u2022 Luego en el instituto tambi\u00e9n me especialice en colorimetr\u00eda, los colores y tonos del cabello son fundamentales para expresar lo que uno desea. \u2022 En el a\u00f1o 2015 en IAP tom\u00e9 cursos de alisado, b\u00f3tox y cauterizaci\u00f3n capilar. \u2022 Y en el a\u00f1o 2017 t\u00e9cnicas de desgastado (balayage, californianas etc). Mantenerse actualizada en las tendencias es fundamental para cualquier estilista. Cuando veo a mis clientas que ven el cabello exactamente como lo so\u00f1aban para mi es un logro personal. Me dedico especialmente a realizar cambios de look, colores fantas\u00edas, balayage, decoloraciones progresivas etc. Trabaje en varios salones, para adquirir toda la pr\u00e1ctica que necesitaba. La cadena de peluquer\u00edas \u00d3scar Colombo fue mi primer sal\u00f3n donde aprend\u00ed a interpretar a las clientas y a trabajar en equipo. Despu\u00e9s de un tiempo cambie mi enfoque a looks m\u00e1s osados en Monster Style, dedic\u00e1ndome full time a color, este sal\u00f3n en particular se dedicaba a cambios extremos colores fantas\u00edas y no convencionales, me sirvi\u00f3 mucho para aprender a utilizar la gama de tonos. Hasta que finalmente decid\u00ed armar mi sal\u00f3n en la comodidad de mi casa.
