That is why my house was left with that sickening smell. Neither my mom nor I knew this. 20 years ago these topics weren&#8217;t as popular as they are today.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What is Formaldehyde and why do I need to avoid it?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Formaldehyde\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Formaldehyde<\/a> is one of the permanent hair straightening treatments main ingredients. We are talking about here about\u00a0Formaldehyde\u00a0and all it&#8217;s derivates.<\/p>\n<p>Formaldehyde is a <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>very toxic chemical that can be quite damaging to our health<\/strong><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>It can be harmful to our eyes and respiratory tract<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You probably know that in order to set a permanent hair straightening treatment you need to apply heat. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The heat applied on Formaldehyde is what makes it so toxic<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A friend of mine works at a quite famous beauty salon\u00a0in the city of Rio de Janeiro. And she told me that there are women that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">suffered first and second degree burns after getting a Brazilian straightening treatment<\/span> (a treatment that has high formalin concentrations).<\/p>\n<p>High Formaldehyde concentrations can cause <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>severe allergies, sore eyes, skin redness, tearing or dermatitis<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>If you still want to get Formaldehyde treatments then what is an acceptable formalin amount?<\/p>\n<p>Less than 5%.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>How do I know how much formalin the product I&#8217;m about to use has?<\/h3>\n<p>There are a few differences between products that contain Formaldehyde and the ones who don&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-note\"  style=\"border-color:#660066;border-radius:2px;-moz-border-radius:2px;-webkit-border-radius:2px;\"><div class=\"su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"background-color:#800080;border-color:#ffccff;color:#333333;border-radius:2px;-moz-border-radius:2px;-webkit-border-radius:2px;\">\n<p style=\"font-size: 24px; color: white;\">Treatments that contain Formaldehyde\u00a0must be applied on ventilated areas or on very large rooms. If the room isn&#8217;t that large then it has to have windows or\u00a0 fans to get rid of the smell. Formaldehyde free products don&#8217;t need any of these precautions and can be applied anywhere.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Applications techniques are quite different too.<\/p>\n<p>Treatments that contain Formaldehyde are applied strand by strand and the product is seal using a hair iron. <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>You must wait at least 3 days before washing your hair<\/strong><\/span>. It doesn&#8217;t need a rinse. It will be a good idea to ask them there.
