Should you use Olaplex 3 on wet or dry hair? How does it work best?

  • Olaplex 3 should always be applied to dry hair. Even if used after coloring or bleaching, the hair should be dry before applying Olaplex 3. That way, the hair will absorb the reconstructive properties of the product better.
  • For the treatment to be even more effective, the hair should not be washed for at least 48 hours.
  • Once applied to dry hair, it should be left on 10 minutes to two hours. The more damaged the hair is, the longer it should be left on.

Do you notice that your hair is very prone to frizz?

Is your hair gummy, or does it look damaged?

Then your best bet is to use Olaplex 3. Unlike other treatments, it works from the inside out restructuring your hair from the core.

Yes, Olaplex 3 rebuilds the bonds that bind the keratin in your hair fiber. Keratin is what breaks during chemical processes. Without those bonds, protein bonding in our hair would be impossible.

What makes Olaplex miraculous is its way of restructuring the hair’s DNA. That’s why it’s more effective than other similar treatments.

Olaplex treatment has several stages:

  • Olaplex 1: to be applied during bleaching (professional use only)
  • Olaplex 2: to be applied during or after coloring. (professional use only)
  • Olaplex 3: deep repairing treatment for home use – yes, the one you’re interested in!
  • Olaplex 4: shampoo.
  • Olaplex 5: conditioner
  • Olaplex 6: intensive leave-in maintenance treatment.
  • Olaplex 7: leave-in repair oil.

Olaplex 3 is easy to use on your dry hair. You don’t need to use the other steps to achieve noticeable results.  You’ll notice the changes immediately.

Then, it’s time for application.

How to apply Olaplex 3 the right way

dry hair

Your hair has to be completely dry. Don’t wash it at least 48 hours before.

If you colored your hair, you could apply Olaplex 3 the same day to wear a vibrant color. In that case, after rinsing out the hair dye, blow dry your hair or let it air dry.

Make sure your hair is thoroughly dry before applying Olaplex 3. Why?

For two main reasons:

  • Repairing action
  • Product absorption

I'll give you an example to help you understand. When you apply moisturizer on your face, do you do it on wet or dry skin?

It’s dry, right? That’s because when the skin is dry, the moisturizing capacity of the product is greater. The same goes for hair.

If you apply Olaplex 3 on your dry hair, the repairing action will be greater due to the temperature and the condition of the hair cuticles.

On the other hand, if your hair is wet, the absorption of the product will be less. Your hair fiber will have absorbed the water and Olaplex 3 will start to run off. So, it won’t penetrate and act on the hair core.

Therefore, you should always apply Olaplex 3 on dry hair.

It's time for application now. What do you need?

  • Olaplex 3
  • Tail comb
  • Hair dye brush
  • Hair clips

Divide your hair into 4 sections, from forehead to nape and from ear to ear, holding them with hair clips.

Remember that your hair should be dry and unwashed at least the previous 48 hours to absorb the Olaplex 3. If you recently colored or bleached your hair, dry it before applying the repair treatment.

Apply a moderate amount to each section of hair.

You can use the hair color brush to ease the application. Then, use the tail comb to comb through your hair and ensure complete coverage.

Leave Olaplex 3 on your dry hair for a minimum of 10 minutes.

The longer you leave it on your hair, the better results you’ll get. Especially if your hair is extremely damaged. In that case, I advise you to leave it on for at least 120 minutes.

After the exposure time, rinse your hair with plenty of lukewarm, almost cold water.

If you can afford it, use Olaplex 4 shampoo and Olaplex 5 conditioner. Otherwise, you can use your usual shampoo and conditioner as your hair will be fully repaired.

You can comb your hair and let it air dry. If you prefer to blow dry it, I recommend it at low or cool temperature.

Please, now that you have regained your hair health,  let it rest for at least three weeks from heat tools, hair dyes, or bleach.

Olaplex 3 should always be applied to dry hair. It guarantees complete product absorption.

After you use it, you’ll notice that your hair is healthy and shiny. You can always apply Olaplex 3 to restore the moisture lost during chemical processes.
