Can I use purple shampoo after Colour B4? Yes, but only if your hair is yellow

  • If your hair is yellow after using Colour B4, you should use a purple shampoo. Then, those unwanted tones will be completely gone after a few washes.
  • But if your hair is brassy, you should use a blue shampoo because it contains the correct color pigments to neutralize the orange.
  • I recommend purple shampoo on your yellow hair once a week because it can dry out your hair a lot.

If only we paid more attention to art classes in school! Many hair problems would be solved beforehand!

What do art classes have to do with hair?

Almost everything! Both painters and stylists use the color wheel.

And we don’t do it on a whim. We do it because it’s the only infallible guide that shows how colors relate to each other.

Things are clear in the chromatic circle: purple neutralizes yellow, and blue neutralizes orange.

So, if after using Colour B4 to remove a permanent hair dye, your hair turned yellow, you should now use purple shampoo.

Regardless of the shade of yellow you get after removing the hair dye with Colour B4, your only option is to use a purple shampoo.

Otherwise, you might face a disaster like Matilde, one of my clients.

In a stroke of sheer bravery, she decided to use Colour B4 to remove a dark brown hair dye which was far from what she wanted.

Of course,  using B4 seems easy, but you have to be prepared for the results.

She thought Colour B4 would remove the hair dye and recover her dark blonde base color. But after rinsing out the Colour B4, her hair was strident yellow.

Things like that tend to happen because the  Colour B4 removes artificial pigments but the peroxide in the hair dyes lightens your base color. That’s something few people know.

Back to Matilde’s yellow color, she decided to use a blue shampoo. Why?

ammonia and bleach free

I never understood. Maybe a friend recommended it to her.

Probably she watched a quick tutorial on the internet, or she could’ve dreamed it. The fact is that she used the blue shampoo on her hair, and she didn’t take the art classes into account.

She applied it once and got no results. The yellow color was still in her hair. She applied it a second time. However, this time, she left it on for three times as long. Result?

Her hair ended up blue.

Then, she called me urgently to tell me about her misfortune. There wasn’t much I could do, other than recommend her to wash her hair until the pigments of the blue shampoo disappeared.

Once the blue had disappeared, she should use a toning shampoo, which would be purple that time.

Do you know any purple shampoo brands?

There’re several alternatives on the market, and all of them are very good.

Today, I’ll tell you which ones are the best and the most used to neutralize the yellow that remains in your hair after using Colour B4.

How to use a purple shampoo on hair that turned yellow after Colour B4

can be used in highlights or balayage hair

Did you apply Colour B4, and your hair turned yellow?

Don’t worry. The purple shampoo will remove that annoying shade.

It not only cleanses the hair but also maintains the hair color in pale blonde and even white or grey tones.

It’s also recommended for women whose hair is very damaged by chemical processes and don’t want a strident color.

Regardless of the intensity of the yellow color you get after using Colour B4, the toning shampoo will neutralize it.  In other words, it’ll perfectly neutralize it:
  • Light yellow
  • Golden yellow
  • Corn yellow
  • Lemon yellow

It’s easy to apply, and you can do it in the shower. Although there are countless brands on the market, most of these products are for frequent use.

The higher the number of pigments in the product, the more spaced out the application will be.

use in yellow hair after colour b4

The strongest purple pigments can be found in:

  • L’OREAL PARIS EVERPURE PURPLE SHAMPOO (PURPLE SHAMPOO)
  • REDKEN COLOR EXTEND PURPLE SHAMPOO (PURPLE SHAMPOO)
  • KERACOLOR CLENDITIONER PURPLE

These brands are the most persistent ones. Therefore, I recommend that you use them once a week, and never for more than seven minutes.

If you overuse purple shampoo, you’ll achieve two things: to paint your hair purple and dry it out.

no yellow fanola

Lighter purple pigments can be found in:

  • FANOLA NO YELLOW
  • MATRIX TOTAL RESULTS SO SILVER PURPLE SHAMPOO
  • JOICO COLOR BALANCE PURPLE

These brands are for frequent use because their pigments are lighter. So, they neutralize colors without unpleasant surprises. The change will be subtle and gradual.

You can use them up to twice a week and leave them on for 3 to 5 minutes.

When there’re no more traces of yellowish tones in your hair, all you have to do is stop using it.  Then, apply it every 10 days or when the unwanted tones reappear.

Unlike other hair coloring products, such as toner, you can regulate the intensity of the color yourself. The longer the exposure time, the more pigments will be deposited without changing the structure of the hair.

What happens if your hair is brassy or ginger after using Colour B4?

Don’t guess! I’ll give you the solution below.

If your hair is brassy after Colour B4, you should use a blue shampoo

In this case, also, the intensity of the brassy color is not relevant. The blue shampoo will neutralize it completely:

  • Pale orange
  • Dark orange
  • Strident (ginger) orange
  • Extra light orange

What you should take into account is the exposure time. The blue shampoo is much stronger than the purple one. That’s why you’ll notice the changes in the first application.

Due to the strength of the blue color itself, shampoo manufacturers decided to include lighter pigments in their colors. The aim is to get a gradual change and for each user to regulate the frequency of application.

There’re many blue toning shampoos on the market, but the ones with the best results are:

MATRIX TOTAL RESULTS

You can get this blue shampoo with its conditioner. It’s for frequent use and will provide you with top-quality pigments. You can use it up to four times a week and leave it in your hair for 3 to 5 minutes according to the intensity of the orange color.

FANOLA NO ORANGE

neutralize orange tones

This blue shampoo is used a maximum of 3 times a week and should be left on your hair for 5 to 8 minutes. Fanola uses extra long-lasting pigments. So, if you leave it on longer, you’ll end up with a blue head.

REDKEN COLOR EXTEND BROWWNLIGHTS

blue toning shampoo

This blue shampoo is for frequent use. You can use it every day and leave it on your orange hair for 3 to 5 minutes. It’s very easy to find on the web and will give you excellent results.

Most shampoos contain some type of moisturizer such as coconut oil or keratin which will be a great help to repair your hair fiber.

Conclusions

After Colour B4, colors such as brassy or yellow may appear in the hair. If your hair is yellow, use a purple shampoo. In turn, if it’s orange, opt for a blue shampoo.

You should also control its use to avoid blue or purple traces in your hair.
