I was fed up.
Fed up with always looking the same, with the same hair color.
That day, I was feeling brave.
After endless nights of reading about it with my pillow, I had decided that I wanted to take my hair to a new extreme.
To another level.
A complete 360° turn, which I hoped not to regret.
I always liked violet.
Or purple, as they call it in the new trends.
According to the believers, it may be because purple or violet has to do with transformations on the spiritual level.
It’s the color that connects us to the mysteriousness of life on a deeply spiritual plane.
I don’t know if I was really looking for something spiritual. I think, in the end, I was looking for something more earthly.
Being able to look in the mirror and see my hair in a shiny, intense purple.
The only thing was that I wanted to dye my dark hair purple without needing to bleach it.
A little, big detail.
So I started to do a bit of research.
Although I was feeling brave, I didn’t want to end up bald instead of violet to tell you the truth.
The first thing I discovered is that different, semi-permanent dyes exist where you don’t need to bleach your hair first if you want to change tones.
Although, in honor of the truth, what all the companies that produce these products recommend is that if you want your hair to be as vibrant as the model on the box, the best thing to do is always lighten your hair a bit.
In a nutshell.
I wasn’t willing to bleach my hair.
I preferred that my hair be less vibrant, and that’s it.
So, the only thing that I had to do was to try the products and see what happened.
I’ll tell you about three products that left my hair purple without needing to bleach it that actually gave me results and really made me want to look in the mirror.
Do you want to know what they are?
I’ll tell you here.
But first, let me tell you exactly what are semi-permanent dyes and how they work.

Semi-permanent dyes: the solution for coloring dark hair
Semi-permanent dyes deposit the color on the hair’s surface without penetrating the cortex because their molecules are much smaller.
Because of this, after twenty or twenty-five washes, the color fades without leaving a trace.
I want to clarify because semi-permanent dyes are not good for gray hair because gray hair is much more porous, so the color fades faster.
Very well.
Now, I’m going to tell you about the products that changed my life, or I should say my hair by turning it purple and made me completely happy.

L’Oreal Paris Colorista Purple (or the color you prefer)

This was the first product that I used to dye my hair purple.
It doesn’t have ammonia or peroxide, two fairly aggressive ingredients for your hair.
And, of course, you don’t need to bleach.
The first thing that surprised me when I used this semi-permanent dye is that it didn’t dry out or damage my ends.
I got a muted violet since I have dark brown hair, but the truth is that it looked shiny, and the color was achieved.
The good thing about this option is that it offers women with dark or black hair other possible tones than just purple, including greens and reds.
I loved the color, but I was a bit disappointed because it faded quickly with washing.
It barely lasted seven washes.
So, I realized that I should try to find another product that gets the same results, regarding the color but lasts longer.
And my research brought me to a second product.
And I don’t know how to say it, but it is fabulous.
Manic Panic Ultra Violet

High Voltage in violet color.
That’s how I define this semi-permanent dye.
What I love most about this product is its super-vibrant, super-pigmented colors.
And I love that due to its creaminess, it’s easy to apply.
You don’t need any other product to apply it. Simply with the help of a dye brush, you take the product directly from the tub it comes in.
That’s it.
Since the pigments are strong, I recommend using a pair of gloves, one of those t-shirts that you only use when your boyfriend doesn’t see you, and avoid using white towels and clothes for at least the first few days after dyeing your hair.
Afterwards, simply divide your hair into sections. I divided it into four sections and start to place the product on your hair abundantly.
I should let you know that the product fades after six weeks depending on how many times a week that you wash your hair.
And now, for the best of the semi-permanent dyes that I tried.
I left it for last because it really gave me the best results.
Now, every person’s hair is different, and what for me is fantastic in other cases may not even be recommendable.
Everything has to do with how you treat your hair, if you moisturize it, if you use paraben and sulfate-free shampoos, and overall, if you pay attention to your hair or simply see it as an accessory.
I’m one of those people that really care for my hair, and I’m always looking for products that are as organic as possible.

I love this semi-permanent purple dye for hair!
It took me a bit of time to find it, but finally, I got it in my hands.
I like most about this product because it lasts for a while, close to six weeks, and when it starts to fade, the brown that remains is quite beautiful. What I mean is that it doesn’t leave pink stains on my chunks of hair.
Also, it’s easy to apply. It’s so easy, anyone could do it, even someone with no dyeing experience.
The dye label has instructions, so I don’t think it makes sense to repeat them here. All you need to know is that it’s easy to apply. But hey, if I can do it and I’m somewhat inept, anyone can.
Now that I told you which semi-permanent, purple dyes I used, I’m also going to tell you some secrets so that these dyes last longer.
Small tricks that I learned over the last year that I use on my hair are things.
Here are my recommendations so that the semi-permanent purple dye lasts longer.
4 tricks so that your hair looks beautiful and attractive for longer
- Use dry shampoos and when possible, rinse your hair with cold water.
- Avoid the sun as much as possible since this makes the purple color fade faster.
- Always use conditioners or hydrating masks for dyed hair.
- If you don’t use dry shampoo, add a few drops of the purple dye to your regular shampoo, sulfate-free if possible when you wash your hair. This will brighten the color immediately.
Now I’ve told you all my secrets to maintain my impeccable purple hair for more time.
Conclusions and the hair lie on Instagram
And that’s all, my friends.
I want to clarify one thing.
With any of the 3 options that I showed you here, you can get beautiful, purple hair.
You will get an exciting and modern change to your look without spending a fortune or stepping foot in a hair salon.
If you have dark hair, don’t expect an intense purple or violet color that you see on Instagram because if you want to get those colors, you have to use bleach.
Many of these girls that proudly show off their purple hair on Instagram to get lots of likes and comments don’t tell you one thing.
They don’t tell you about the whole aggressive process they went through to get their hair to that color.
It seems important to me to clear up that aspect.
And now I ask you all.
Do you have dark hair? Have you ever dyed your hair purple?
What was your experience like?
