If you want to turn your blonde to platinum, your hair has to be an extra light blonde color, the lightest shade that exists.
Is your hair that shade already?
- If your hair is already that shade, you can dye it platinum right away. And soon, I’ll tell you how to do it.
- Now, if your hair isn’t that shade, you’ll have to bleach it, and only then can you apply the platinum tone.
If you’re in this second category, I understand your disappointment.
Because I know that your head is already full of images of platinum blondes, who post photos of their transformations overnight, going from a dark tone to a platinum color, almost in the blink of an eye.
But platinums require a lot of work, care and one specific condition that must be respected to the letter: starting from an almost white tone.
Because if your hair doesn’t have the right base tone, you’ll not be able to change it to any color, let alone platinum.
And do you know why it’s so important that your hair is an extra light blonde tone, that is, almost white?
Because actually, platinum is more than anything a highlight, that is put in light blonde hair so that it looks this color.
This is how you get the “nordic blonde”, as I call it, which became so famous because of one of the protagonists of the show “Game of Thrones”, Daenerys Targaryen, the mother of dragons, do you remember her?
If you already have extra light blonde hair color, you only have to figure out which brand of color kit to choose.
Normally, platinum tone is 10.1, although you can also find it as 11.11.What is the difference between these two numbered dyes?
10.1 is a platinum blonde, and 11.11 is platinum, that’s to say, more platinum than blonde.
Now, this depends on your taste and preference, but keep in mind that these unique colors always look the best for those with light complexions.

How to go from yellow to the correct base tone for applying platinum
In hair coloring matters, the most important thing is to always remember the base color that we start with. Because this will determine the results.
As I was explaining before, the base color should be very light so that your platinum turns out perfect.
- For this reason, if your hair isn’t an extra light shade you should bleach it and, depending on the tone of your hair, you might need more than one session.
- If your hair is already a blonde 10, you don’t need to bleach.
- If your hair is between the blonde tones 8 and 9, you’ll need one session of bleaching, and if your tone is a 6 or 7, you’ll need two, or even three, bleaching sessions.
I’m not here to explain the bleaching treatment to you, but rather to warn you. Bleaching is a chemical process that damages your hair. If you don’t have experience doing this treatment, please, go to a professional.
Because it won’t be good for your platinum look at all if your hair is completely damaged.
What’s more, if you take the risk to bleach it on your own, and it’s a disastrous experience, because of your hair burns, for example, it’s most likely that afterward, you won’t be able to apply platinum.
Is it worth the risk? Or is it worth it to take to the time to consult with a professional that can give you platinum hair?
The answer is up to you.
Now, supposing that you already have extra light blonde hair, or you’ve already bleached it to get this shade, how do you make sure that your hair turns out platinum?
That, I’ll tell you next.
How to apply platinum tone once your hair is already extra light blonde
Once your hair is the right base tone, you should buy the dye.
You have no idea which dye to buy?
Keep calm Snow Queen, I’m going to give you some recommendations about which are the best brands for platinum dyes.
But first, we’re going to turn your extra light blonde to platinum. Are you ready?
- Step 1
Brush your hair so that there are no knots, which can cause problems when applying the dye.
- Step 2
Inside the coloring kit, you’ll find a tube of dye and a container of cream developer. The cream developer is the peroxide, which you should mix with the dye until you have a uniform consistency.
If you prefer, you can mix these two materials in a plastic container and apply it with a paintbrush. And don’t forget to use the gloves that come with the kit.
- Step 3
Put the dye in your hair from roots to tips, covering all your hair surface. Take your time, don’t let anyone rush you, given that you mustn’t leave any part of your hair without dye.
When you’ve finished, cover your hair with a shower cap or an aluminum foil cap. This is basically because heat accelerates the time it takes for the penetration of the dye.
Let it sit for 30 to 45 minutes.
- Step 4
After the exposure time, rinse with abundant lukewarm water until it runs clean and always apply the post color treatment that comes with the color kit. This will hydrate your hair and give it shine.
And now, the last step, for which you’ve been waiting for months: Look at yourself in the mirror!
How do you feel with your platinum hair? As powerful as the mother of dragons, capable of stealing Jon Snow’s heart?
Then, go out and start to show off your new platinum hair.
But, I haven’t forgotten my promise, and right now I’ll let you know about the best brands of platinum dyes.

How to care for a platinum tone so that it lasts for longer
If you should be aware of anything, it’s that you must care for your platinum hair, in the same way, that you care for your favorite white dress.
- My first recommendation is that you don’t wash your hair every day, to not wash the pigment from your hair And when you do wash it, try to do it with lukewarm water, not hot.
- Also, if you had to bleach your yellow hair to get to an extra light blonde, you should give your scalp the chance to produce natural oils that will nourish your hair.
- And of course, use hair products designed specifically for hair dyed platinum. Nowadays, you’ll be able to find from shampoos to hydration masks for platinum hair.
Now you know how to turn your hair from yellow to platinum to be a real Snow Queen.
