High Lift Vs. Bleach: which one should you choose according to a pro

  • If you don’t have any coloring experience, don’t bleach your hair or apply a high lift hair dye. Although they’re two different processes, you could burn your hair.
  • If your hair is very dark or you want to remove dark hair dyes, I recommend bleaching it. The chemical reaction will remove the intense or artificial pigments from the hair. High lift hair dye only lightens. It doesn’t remove any pigments.
  • And if your hair is brown, and you want to lighten it up to five shades, I advise you to use a high lift hair dye. It’s less aggressive than bleach and adds color to your hair while it lightens it.

Do you want to change your hair color to a lighter shade?

Don’t know which method to use and which one is best for your hair?

Nowadays, applying bleach to lighten dark hair isn’t the only way.

High lift hair dyes are designed to lighten up to 5 shades without exposing your hair to such an aggressive process as bleaching.

So, if you want to know the difference between bleaching and high lift hair color because you want to lighten your hair, you have to consider your base color:

  • If your hair is very dark, bleaching will give you good results.
  • If your hair is in medium tones, you can opt for either bleaching or high lift hair dye.
  • If your hair is light or very light, choose the high lift hair color.

before coloring

Regardless of your choice, both hair dyes have something in common.

To apply a high lift hair color or bleach, the hair must be healthy. Perfectly healthy.

Therefore, before applying either of these two products, you should assess the condition of your hair.

  • Is your hair excessively frizzy?
  • Do you find it impossible to style when wet?
  • Do you have brittle ends?
  • Has your hair already gone through several chemical processes?

If your answer to any of these questions is yes, don’t apply any of them.

If you do, your hair won’t resist the bleaching or high lift coloring.

Your hair is too damaged to be exposed to either of these chemical processes.

Therefore, you should start a moisturizing plan to repair your hair.

Once your hair is healthy, you can apply the bleach or high lift hair color.

Let’s see how high lift hair color and bleaching differ to help you make the right decision.

Differences between high lift hair dye and bleach

  • Bleaching removes color from your hair, whether natural or artificial. High lift hair dye will only lift your hair a few shades.
  •  High lift hair color is less aggressive  because no bleach powder is used in the mix. Bleaching requires bleach powder to remove pigments from the hair.
  • Bleaching is ideal for removing darker pigments from the hair. The high lift hair color, in turn, needs several applications.
  •  High lift hair color adds color, while bleaching doesn’t.  It only removes existing pigments.
  • Bleaching removes all the hair dye from your hair. However, high lift hair dyes only lighten the color and cover it with pigmentation.

As you can see, you can decide which process is the right one to achieve the goal you are looking for.

If you want to remove very dark or artificial pigments from the hair, you’ll need to bleach it. High lift hair color won’t work for you in that case.

safe for hair

Bleaching causes a chemical reaction to remove pigmentation from artificial or natural hair.

If your dark or color-treated hair is healthy, and you want to lighten it, you can bleach it.

  • Bleach powder
  • 30-volume developer
  • Plastic container
  • Hair dye brush
  • Gloves
  • Hair tweezers

Application:

  • Comb and separate your hair into 4 sections, from forehead to nape and from ear to ear, holding each section with hair clips.
  • In a plastic container place the bleach powder and 30-volume developer mixing until fully integrated.
  • Wearing gloves, apply the bleach from roots to ends. Repeat on each section and cover all your hair. Then, put on a shower cap to maintain the temperature of the reaction.
  • Leave the bleach on for 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Finally, rinse your hair with plenty of cold water to slow down the heat reaction. You can use your usual shampoo to remove all traces of the bleach.

If the bleach has reached the shade you were hoping for, you can apply the hair dye.

If you still didn’t get the shade you were looking for, you should wait at least 3 weeks while you moisturize your hair and repeat the whole process.

Don’t bleach your hair several times on the same day or subsequent days. The process is very aggressive to the hair and can cause irreparable damage.

You can also use it if your hair is extra light and you want to cover your roots. High lift hair dyes will help you achieve the lightest colors without damaging your hair.

Now  the way to apply the high lift hair dyes is completely different from other hair dyes. They’re applied in two steps.

That is, you should start the application on the mid-lengths and lengths, let it act, and then apply it to the roots and growth. Finally, wait for it to act. Why?

Because newer hair, i.e. the roots, lightens faster.

If you apply the high lift hair dye to all of your hair at the same time, your roots will turn white, and the rest of your hair will turn pale blonde.
