Does clarifying shampoo help with dandruff? It helps, but it won’t get rid of it

  • Clarifying shampoo will help you to control your dandruff, but it’s not the ultimate solution. Why? It’s because you can only use this type of shampoo once a fortnight.
  • Therefore, if you have dandruff, the first thing to do is consult a dermatologist to get the right diagnosis.
  • The dermatologist will probably recommend a care routine where you can alternate using a clarifying shampoo and an anti-dandruff shampoo. And later on, I’ll tell you what this routine might look like.

Thinking about  using a clarifying shampoo to get rid of dandruff ?

That’s not surprising.

Many of my clients suffer from dandruff. To find out how to get rid of it, they come to me for advice.

But on this subject, I’m very cautious.

At the hairdressing academy, we learned about scalp and hair follicle issues,  but we’re not specialists in medical issues. .

For that, there are dermatologists, professionals who specialize in skin conditions. And of course, the scalp, where dandruff originates, is skin.

I even recommend that many of my clients see a trichologist, who is a dermatologist specializing in scalp and hair follicle conditions.

Many of my clients, on professional recommendation, use  clarifying shampoo to “control” dandruff.

But they don’t use it to eliminate it.  And I would also like to clarify that they use it on the recommendation of a dermatologist.

Why is it that in some cases a dermatologist recommends the use of clarifying shampoo to fight dandruff?

Because clarifying shampoo eliminates the accumulation of dandruff and seborrhea. Dandruff happens when bacteria settle on the scalp, causing dryness and flaking.

Now, let me ask you a question.

Are you sure your problem is dandruff?

Because there’s something called eczema that produces symptoms very similar to dandruff. For example, flaking of the scalp and white residue on the scalp that’s visible to the naked eye.

And the only person who can diagnose these issues is a dermatologist. After some studies and analysis, they will diagnose whether you have dandruff or eczema.

When in doubt,  if you don’t know for sure whether you have dandruff or eczema, you shouldn’t use a clarifying shampoo.

Because eczema can be aggravated to the point of causing hair loss and bleeding of the scalp.

Now that we’ve cleared up all these points, which are important to me, let’s now see why you could include clarifying shampoo in your routine to fight dandruff.

Clarifying shampoo can help you with dandruff, but always alternate using it with an anti-dandruff shampoo.

purple shampoo should be used several times

And this is really the crux of the matter.

If you have dandruff, you can’t only use clarifying shampoo.

  • First,  because clarifying shampoo should only be used a maximum of once a fortnight . And I doubt you only wash your hair twice a month.
  • Second, because the only thing clarifying shampoo will do is wash away all the flaking skin from the scalp. But  the shampoo won’t kill the bacteria that causes dandruff.

That’s why you should alternate using clarifying shampoo with anti-dandruff shampoo, which contains medications that prevent bacteria from spreading.

Clarifying shampoo will remove excess oil, dead skin, dirt and any other residue stuck to your scalp.

But  you can only use it up to twice a month,  as its ingredients can dry out your hair and aggravate the dandruff problem.

I want to be very clear on this point: THE CLARIFYING SHAMPOO WILL NOT CURE YOUR DANDRUFF, IT WILL ONLY BE AN AID TO IMPROVING YOUR CONDITION.

Therefore,  you should also use an anti-dandruff shampoo to eliminate dandruff for good.

And that’s what I’ll talk about next.

As I mentioned before, clarifying shampoo should be used once a fortnight at the most. And if you have dandruff, it’s best to wash your hair every 72 hours using an anti-dandruff shampoo.

You can’t replace one with the other  because clarifying shampoo is much more aggressive than other types of shampoo and can dry out your scalp.

So I propose this ideal routine for you that’s divided by weeks:

Week 1

  • Monday, use clarifying shampoo.
  • Tuesday, don’t wash your hair.
  • Wednesday, use anti-dandruff shampoo.
  • Thursday, don’t wash your hair.
  • Friday, anti-dandruff shampoo.
  • Saturday and Sunday, don’t wash your hair and see how it reacts.

Week 2

  • Monday, wash your hair with anti-dandruff shampoo.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday, don’t wash your hair.
  • Thursday, wash your hair with anti-dandruff shampoo.
  • Friday and Saturday, don’t wash your hair.
  • Sunday, wash your hair with anti-dandruff shampoo.

Week 3

  • Monday, don’t wash your hair.
  • Tuesday, wash your hair with clarifying shampoo.
  • Wednesday and Thursday, don’t wash your hair.
  • Friday, wash your hair with anti-dandruff shampoo.
  • Saturday and Sunday, don’t wash your hair

Week 4

  • Monday, wash your hair with anti-dandruff shampoo.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday, don’t wash your hair.
  • Thursday, wash your hair with anti-dandruff shampoo.
  • Friday and Saturday, don’t wash your hair.
  • Sunday, wash your hair with anti-dandruff shampoo.

This is just an example of a care routine you can implement using a clarifying shampoo and anti-dandruff shampoo.

But remember that everyone’s hair is different and you should always be aware of any changes that may occur in your scalp.

Conclusion

As a stylist, I recommend that you see a dermatologist for the correct diagnosis and treatment of dandruff.

Because if you confuse dandruff with eczema, clarifying shampoo can aggravate your situation, causing scalp bleeding and hair loss.
