The top 8 reasons why you shouldn’t dye your hair red are:

Women have been in a constant revolution for years.

We live a spectacular change. We work every day to destroy all the social obligations from the past. We feel full and do whatever we want.

We shave our hair, we sign up for activities we’ve been putting off for years, we travel much more, and we enjoy life.

While I love witnessing us breaking all the rules and enjoy every moment, I have doubts regarding red hair.

Coloring your hair red is like deciding whether to go to a spa with a friend or missing a work meeting by calling in sick. It’s totally irresponsible. As a colorist, I can tell you that coloring your hair red is irresponsible.

Although we all fantasize about changing our hair color, believe me  red hair is a real nightmare. .

If I haven’t convinced you yet that you shouldn’t dye your hair red, I’ll do it with what I’m going to tell you now.

1- Red hair is very difficult to match well

too much makeup

The red hair color is more than just a hair color. It’s a whole accessory, and you’ll have to learn to combine it with your clothes and mood.

In case you go for it, be prepared to give up on some shocking colors. Also, to renew the assortment of your closet.  If you don’t have many matching colors, it’ll be a real problem for you. .

Yellow and orange should be used with care. For example, you’ll have to wear neutral and boring clothes tones.

Remember that red hair is an accessory that’ll always make you stand out.

So unless you are willing to revamp your entire wardrobe, makeup, and basically everything in your life, the best is to avoid coloring your hair red.

2- Red hair is very expensive to maintain

in her home shower

When I say expensive, I mean for several aspects, not just the economic one.

Red is well-known for fading quickly. You’ll have to go back to the salon once a month.

It’ll also take some time to keep it impeccable.

Are you willing to invest in a color shampoo, a special mask, and a toning agent to use between each coloring session? Are you willing to spend the time it needs? And to learn all the care tricks?

If you dye your hair at home, you’ll save some money. However, you’ll need some colorimetry knowledge if you want it to look nice and even. .

So if you are not willing to invest a lot of money and time in maintaining the red, I advise you not to do it.

3- Red hair will force you to have it neat

unique and personal color

As I said before, red hair is an accessory you’ll always wear on you. Accessories make you look prettier.

Imagine that one morning you sleep in and have to rush off to work. With no time for your hair, you’ll have to leave it completely disheveled. That would be like pairing a pearl necklace with sweatpants.

You won’t always feel like dressing up. However, red hair doesn’t allow that kind of temptations. .

So if you enjoy the days when you don’t do your hair, I’d suggest you avoid coloring your hair red. Otherwise, you’ll never be able to enjoy those days of freedom again. Red hair doesn’t give you freedom.

4- Red hair could make you look older

It’s not a bad thing to be older because it’s the law of life. However, let’s be honest. We all want to look fresh and youthful.

Red hair enhances the skin and wrinkles. .

So, if you don’t want to look older than you are, nor highlight your skin’s imperfections, please don’t dye your hair red.

5- Red hair could tire you out quickly

after the shower and drying it

What woman doesn’t quickly tire of her hair?

Red hair that can become overwhelming.  Also, considering all the care and attention it needs, I can’t imagine happy with your red hair for long.

I mean, maybe one day you wake up longing to dye your hair red. However, can you be sure you’ll want to wear that color for a long time?

So, if you get tired of things quickly, the wisest thing to do is not to dye your hair red.

6- Red is very hard to remove from your hair

Red and black are two of the most difficult colors to remove from hair. It doesn’t mean that they can’t be removed. However, the removal process can wear and tear your hair.

You’ll have to bleach it, which will damage your ends. So, the only solution will be to trim them off.

You’ll remove the red hair dye, but you’ll also lose a few inches. Not to mention the condition of the rest of your hair.

7- Red highlights all the imperfections of your hair

intense color

Do you have your ends split, porous hair, or a bit dry hair from mid-lengths to ends?

I’m sorry to tell you that, in that case,  dyeing your hair red won’t be a good choice.

Red highlights all the hair’s imperfections.  As red attracts all eyes, you don’t want to draw attention to your unkempt hair.

8- Red hair could be too flashy (especially if you don’t choose the right red shade)

long hair

If you don’t choose the right shade, red might be too flashy for you. It’ll make everyone turn around to look at you. Do you really want that? Do you enjoy being the center of attraction?

Being the center of attention is not a bad thing. It’s just that some people enjoy it and some people do not.

Real women have real lives. Sometimes we’re in a bad mood and don’t feel like combing our hair. Other days we want to be inconspicuous. We don’t always feel like matching every last detail.

If you end up with a  red shade that is too bright, what will you do when you want to go unnoticed? Hide under your bed?

You can hide for a day or two. Then, you’ll have to go out into the world with that hair you’re so ashamed of. No matter what you do, your hair will always take center stage.

Think twice before dyeing your hair red. Especially if you are not 100% sure which shade of red will look good on you.

Red hair is in! The industry is encouraging us to buy it.

It’s that same multi-billion dollar industry that tells us that    one year it’s in… and out of style the next. .

The models they portray have nothing to do with the habits of real-life women.  In real life, women don’t always feel like wearing makeup. Also, we don’t have someone to do our hair and make us look like advertisements. .

Even if that industry encourages you to color your hair red, remember that they’re trying to sell you a fantastic moment.

In my years as a colorist, I’ve met dozens of women who regretted shocking colors like red.

So, as the saying goes, forewarned is forearmed.
