When you’re waiting for something specific to happen like your curls to relax, time starts to stretch and the wait can become a bit long.

At this point, waiting for three weeks isn’t the same as waiting for 6 weeks or more. So, I could say that regardless of the curls you have,   your hair type will influence the times.

So, I’ll try to be as precise as possible about the times you should expect to wait to relax your hair perm. Let’s go!

If you have thick hair, you’re the lucky one.   Your perm is likely to relax even faster   than other hair.

This happens because your lucky thick hair is more sealed than others. So,   your perm will probably be relaxed in 3 to 4 weeks.

These times may also vary depending on the type of rod or roller your stylist used.

If the rod was too tight, you should probably wait 4 weeks.   On the other hand, if it was a Flexi rod, your perm will probably be relaxed within 3 weeks.

What do you think?

If you still think it’s too long to wait, I’ll give you a great trick below   to help you relax your perm   even faster.

How long does it take for the perm to relax on fine hair? Between 4 to 6 weeks

dry and frizzy hair

Fine hair is more prone to breakage and damage, which is why it is more prone to frizz after a perm.  Your perm could look even tighter due to drying and frizz.

For fine hair, the relaxation times of a perm will depend on its hydration level.   Your perm will take 4 to 6 weeks to relax.

Keep in mind that the drier your hair is, the longer it’ll take for your perm to relax. So, if you want to speed up the time it takes for those curls to loosen up, you’ll need to moisturize your locks super well!

You should use shampoo, conditioner, and a moisturizing mask.

It would be ideal to leave your moisturizing mask wrapped in a towel for 20 minutes.   It’ll be even better to start relaxing your hair perm.

Then, as a leave-in styling product, use a keratin cream and apply it to damp hair. Massage the tightest parts of your perm and style as usual.
Of course, you should avoid the heat of the hair dryer.   Let your hair air dry   and you’ll see how your curly hair starts to relax soon.

Tips and products to relax your perm faster on fine hair

As I told you earlier,   fine hair tends to dry out even more after a perm.   In other words, your curls can look tight and have extra frizz.

So, you’ll need to go all out to get your perm rehydrated and relaxed. How do you do that?

As you don’t have thick hair, you won’t use moisturizing products. Instead, you’ll need keratin and nourishing products.

Products with keratin will help relax your perm and eliminate frizz to keep your hair strong and soft.

Ideally, use a shampoo and conditioner with keratin. Then apply a   nourishing mask and leave it on for 15 minutes with your hair wrapped in a towel.   These three steps should be done every time you wash your hair.

At the end,   use a leave-in moisturizing styling spray.   You’ll soon see how your hair starts to rehydrate and your curls start to relax.

You’ll notice this change two weeks after starting the treatment.

Is there any chance that the perm won’t relax? It always relaxes!

Nothing lasts forever, not even a hair perm. So,   sooner or later, your perm will relax.   It happens every time, in every case.

Remember that there are ways to relax perms with specific care products for each hair type.   Choose your products   and be consistent in styling your curls after washing.

Conclusion: To make your perm relax faster, moisturize and style your curls

As we saw in this article, permed curls will take 3 to 4 weeks to relax if your hair is thick. On the other hand,   if you have fine hair, it’ll take between 4 to 6 weeks.

However, you can help speed up this process by using the   right products for your hair type,   such as hairsprays, styling creams, sulfate-free shampoos, and all the ones I recommended in each case.

Curls are in trend. Take advantage of them!
